Athletic Director
Michael L. Baldwin Sr. was appointed Athletic Director for East Orange School District on February 20, 2018. Before becoming the Athletic Director Mr. Baldwin served as a Teacher of Special Education from 1996 - 2018. He developed his extensive coaching and Administrative experience having served as both a teacher and a coach, where he coached sports at various high schools in addition to his role as Disciplinarian of the school.
Since Mr. Baldwin’s appointment as Athletic Director in 2018, the athletic programs have earned numerous championships (conference, division, and State) in Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Track and Field between 2018- 2021. Based on effective administrative operation, through collaborative effort and implementation; dozens of East Orange student-athletes have earned college scholarships. Including several division 1 honors. Education is high on the mark for Baldwin and his colleagues have fostered a track record that validates the supporting effort of good teamwork.
As an initiative to aid girls in sports, Baldwin has worked on various programs. In 2021 Baldwin in conjunction with the New York Jets and Nike organization introduce a girl’s flag Football pilot program. He also sits on the annual Paul Robeson High School All-Star Football Classic committee. In 2019 Baldwin supported efforts for the monument dedicated in honor of East Orange trailblazer legend Althea Gibson at Soverel Park. A testament to his love for the community!
His proudest accomplishments as East Orange Athletic Director are increasing athletic participation, winning the 2018-2019 Boys Indoor Track and Field SEC championship for the fourth year in a row. Winning Back to Back Liberty Blue Super Football Conference Championship in 2018-2019 as well as Super Essex Conference Colonial Division Championship in Boys Basketball in 2020.
As a man strongly dedicated to servicing the community, he is proud to be a part of the Essex County Athletic Director Association (ECADA) and is a Registered Athletic Administrator (RAA). A former Past Master Of Prince Hall Masonry and a 32-year member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity incorporated. Baldwin continues to embrace the organization's model of “Culture For Service and Service For Humanity.”
