1.  To advance and apply knowledge of our subjects and content areas, through teaching, research and service.

2.  To prepare our students to communicate effectively in a broad global context by developing proficiency in the content learned.

3.  To foster and enhance intellectual and academic flexibility, and creativity through the exploration and application of material learned in our courses, and through direct interaction with other people in those fields, and in the classroom.

4.  To assess the ongoing success of the educational mission of this department through a developing set of measures of educational outcomes.
